Apex Legends PC patch makes it easier to select central servers, ups client send rate

Apex Legends has received a networking-focused new update on PC.

The new patch makes the process of selecting a data centre when launching the game more intuitive. The list of servers Apex Legends displays will continue to be sorted by ping, but you’ll be able to tell at a glance which server you’ve selected thanks to a new orange highlight.

Respawn is also upping the rate clients send user input to servers. It’s not clear if this is an increase to the overall bandwidth of the netcode, so we’ll have to wait for testing to know for sure.

The changes seen below will make it to consoles at the launch of Season 2, assuming everything goes smoothly on PC. For now, you can read the full change log for today’s update below:

Data centre improvements

  • List will be sorted by ping by default.
  • The selected data centre will be highlighted in orange.
  • Focused/hovered data centres will still be highlighted in grey.
  • Right clicking a data centre will no longer make it look selected
  • Right click wouldn’t actually select the data centre but would still highlight the selection which could be confusing.
  • Clients will now send user input to the server at a higher rate.

Code: Leaf error

  • There is still some work to do on our end to nail down what is causing this error. In this patch we’re adding more telemetry to help us identify specifically how this error is being caused. You may start to get a code:net error instead of code:leaf. That is intended and part of the telemetry we added. We’ll be continuing to investigate this issue and it remains a priority.
